How to Access iCloud Keychain passwords on Chrome for Windows

iCloud Keychain is the secure feature by Apple which allows all passwords and other secure users' info readily available to them on all devices where they are logged into. Apple earlier this month launched a more convenient way for users within and outside the ecosystem (i.e. iPhone,  iPad, and Mac users) who depend on the iCloud services—to have access to their iCloud Keychain passwords on Windows.

How does it work?

The new feature is made possible through a Google Chrome extension which comes along with a recent update to the iCloud Windows client. Once iCloud for windows is installed,
  1. Launch the app and login
  2. After a successful login, you should see a new Passwords option, enable it
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to download and enable the new iCloud Passwords extension on chrome.

Accessing passwords on websites

The extension is designed to autofill login fields on any website you visit, provided that a saved password of that particular website exists in your iCloud Keychain. All you need to do is to tap on the iCloud Passwords extension icon in chrome, verify the code and simply choose the account from the list of saved passwords to login.

Updating and saving a new password

You can also save a new password or update existing passwords using the extension. To do that, you will need to:
  1. Visit the website
  2. Type in the new or updated password
  3. Tap on the iCloud Passwords extension icon and verify the code
  4. Click Save Password or Update Password to add a new password or update and existing password in the iCloud Keychain respectively.
Any updates you make through the new iCloud Passwords Chrome extension will be saved in the iCloud Keychain and hence will be available on all other devices. Apart from saving passwords and making them available, it can also generate strong password like any other modern password manager

It is good to see Apple gradually extend some of its services across its native devices, Apple TV and  Music are available on the Google Play Store on android but we still believe and hope for more exciting times ahead.
