You can now set a 4-Digit PIN on your Netflix profile, here's how

How to add a PIN to your Netflix Profile
Secure your Netlix profile with a 4-digit PIN

Netflix just added a new feature to prevent freeloaders from messing up your watch history and recommendations giving you a new option of setting a secure login into your Profile. It works like the passcode on your iPhone -- you only have access to the account when you enter the right pin. The feature was added a parental control option, to prevent kids from watching what they are not supposed to. Overall it is a very useful privacy feature as well.

How to add a PIN to your Netflix Profile

In a few simple steps, here is how to secure your Netflix profile with a pin:
  • Sign in to your Netflix account in the web browser (not the app)
  • Choose the profile you want to protect
  • Choose 'Account' from the right-hand corner
  • Scroll down to the Profile & Parental Controls section and select the appropriate profile
  • Click 'Change' beside 'Profile Lock' and this will take you to a different page
  • As a security measure, Netflix will ask you to enter your account password again
  • Check the 'Lock this profile by creating a 4-digit pin' box
  • Enter your PIN and save

If you share your Netflix password with your family and a few friends and your recently watched is a bit messed, it is highly likely they've also shared the password with others. That aside,  there's a numerous of hackers around who might have acquired your password through phishing and others since there's no two-factor authentication on Netflix. This new feature will render the account virtually useless to anyone who has unauthorised access to it especially if there's only one profile with a pin.
